Provisional results of GB T-1 2024/25 capacity auction

The provisional results of the latest T-1 capacity auction in Great Britain were published on Tuesday 20 February, with a total of 7,640MW in capacity agreements awarded to capacity market units at an auction clearing price of £35.79/kW.

SSE Thermal has provisionally secured agreements for 1,365MW of de-rated* electricity generation capacity for the delivery year 2024/25, which runs from 1 October to 30 September.

This includes its Keadby 1 Power Station in North Lincolnshire (692MW) and its Medway Power Station on the Isle of Grain (673MW). Its smaller embedded plants at Burghfield and Chickerell did not secure agreements in the auction however these assets have capacity agreements for future delivery years and will continue to support the system in delivering flexible power when required.

All of SSE Thermal’s other GB generating units have existing agreements until at least September 2027.

The provisional results are subject to confirmation by the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ).

*A de-rating factor is applied to all capacity according to rules set by the UK Government.
