Senior staff at energy firm SSE have this afternoon (Friday) conveyed their sincere thanks for the first class response of emergency services and other agencies, and West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service in particular, following a fire at Ferrybridge power station.
At around 2.00pm yesterday (Thursday) a serious fire impacted Units 3 and 4 of SSE's Ferrybridge C power station in West Yorkshire. The Company's practised emergency response procedures were immediately activated, with all staff accounted for and no injuries reported. The site was secured soon after the incident and the fire brought under control.
SSE Director of Thermal Operations Mark Hayward said:
“West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service has demonstrated outstanding professionalism in its response to this major incident at Ferrybridge power station and we are immensely grateful for the support we've received. SSE is also very thankful for the efficiency and urgency with which other emergency services and key agencies came together to address the challenge alongside fire and rescue crews. These include the local police, ambulance service and Environment Agency. Our own SSE staff on site also provided invaluable support, helping emergency services deal with the incident as quickly as possible”.
“The incident is now fully stabilised and we are working with the relevant authorities including the fire service to begin an investigation into the cause, and to determine what next steps need to be taken. Our number one priority will continue to be the safety of all those working on the site, and the general public, as we move into the next phase of our response.
“We will release further information into the public domain as appropriate.”
