Multifuel Energy Ltd (MEL) is a 50:50 joint venture between SSE plc and Wheelabrator Technologies Inc.
In 2011, MEL received planning consent to construct a multifuel power station on land owned by SSE at Ferrybridge ‘C’ Power Station near Knottingley in West Yorkshire.
This project, now known as Ferrybridge Multifuel 1 (FM1) is currently under construction and is expected to be commercially operational by spring/summer 2015.
The multifuel power station produces low carbon electricity and heat by burning waste derived fuel from various sources of processed municipal solid waste, commercial and industrial waste and waste wood.
